What movies should I watch?

You may be a little surprised but I’m very spoilt for choice so much that I don’t really know what to watch. Say lol?

Here’s the thing. As you can see by now, I talk movies and music in this blog, although I very much like to keep a personal feel to it. After all, this is my own blog, not a gossip/movie/music/review blog. And I’d like to watch every movie in the cinema if I could help it, but I simply wouldn’t have the time to do so, plus my expenses would explode if I did so. :P

But then again, if I don’t watch some movies, I can’t talk about them in my blog can I? So do me a favour please? Recommend me some movies this September. Preferably something you yourself have watched and find interesting, or will watch. If you can’t figure out what movie to recommend, here’s the webpage of the cinema I frequently go to. You can see that the page shows movies that the cinema is soon showing this month. You can also see movies the cinema is currently showing, under the “Now Showing” section.

You can recommend me as many as you like, and I’ll try my best to watch all of them (lol). But one rule of thumb: I HATE horror! Yes, call me a coward, but I don’t watch horror period. And before you call me biased or anything, John Campea of The Movie Blog felt Halloween 2 (which I don’t know will be aired over here or not) was so bad he just said “F*ck this movie”. And this guy watches movies for a living! So not all movies are created equal, and some of the most debased movies are horror. At least, what I think.

So, back to the question, what should I watch? I’ll really watch what you guys recommend me. Serious. ;)

A question – would you watch movies like these?

First, 2012. If you haven’t had a sneak peek, try this below.

In case you are wondering why 2012, it’s an open secret that the number was chosen based on a supposed prediction using the Maya Long Count Calendar that creation will end in 21 December 2012. How and why, it’s not really publicly known, but apparently the producers have taken it upon themselves to construct the imagery of the event in the said calendar.

I think I’ll watch the movie anyway, for the entertainment value. Plus, we need to know more about Mayan culture don’t we? :P 2012 will be released worldwide in November 2009 and is expected to arrive in Malaysia in December.

Would you watch a movie like this? Question 1.

Question 2. Would you watch a documentary film that may just get Wall Street bankers (some say banksters) a little nervous?

If so, you’re in love with Capitalism: A Love Story.

I think many people especially outside of the American world will be quite surprised about the inner workings of their corporate government, after watching this. Michael Moore (the producer) is no stranger to controversy, but most of us are. My advice: tread lightly if you want to watch this. I believe it has already been approved for viewing in Malaysia but when, I don’t know. But for sure this will not get a U (general viewing) rating from the censor board.

The film is expected to be released in October 2009.

The question: Would you watch it?

3rd, yet another documentary film, this time about the food we eat.

I gotta feeling that organic lovers will feel energetic after watching this. It’s like “See, we were correct and you weren’t!”. Personally I wouldn’t go for it – stuff inside the film is actually google-able, and I already knew that much about corporate food myself. However creating awareness is the key – Wiki reports that after the film was released in 2008 (what?!), several food conglomerates including those involved in GE responded either by lambasting the film itself, or establishing counter claims or actually making use of the film to project a positive corporate image as was done by Chipotle. Brilliant?

I think the ONE-YEAR old film couldn’t make it here. Nevertheless like Bruno it’s currently showing in Singapore so you know where to find it.

Question – provided you were able to watch Food Inc, would you?

Please let me know via the comment box. Thanks a lot to the guys and gals who actually took time to comment these few days – you rock my day ya know that? :D

I Like This – The Disney Magic(s)

How long has it been since we last saw the REAL magic of Walt Disney?

I mean, the REAL one?

It’s been such a long time that I thought Disney has decided to deviate from its original vocation for good. I had started to abandon my expectations about Disney, until yesterday.

I saw this in cinemas…

Although I expect many fans of the old Disney magic will love this very much (including me), still I don’t expect Disney to churn out stuff like this year after year like what they did in the 90s. Probably a nostalgia to remind us of it. Meanwhile in addition to the Princess and the Frog, you can expect something like “Alice in Wonderland”

and the ever-surprising-us-with-ownage-animation Pixar Studio’s “Toy Story 3″

I know I will catch the Disney magic in cinemas when they’re released – next year. Until then I can only dream about it.
