Sing with Libera, in Manila, like this!

A very popular choir group, Libera is going to the Phillippines to sing. I can’t go to the Phillippines, but maybe those who are there might try. One catch, could you sing with them, like this?

Fantastic soprano? I daresay it is. I’m not a fan of the Gregorian/polyphonic chant kind of thing, but they’re really so good I can’t help but take notice.

The first line of Gloria:

Gloria in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus.

(Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to mankind)

Is no doubt reminiscent of the Gloria in the Mass of Roman Catholicism. Perhaps that is the reason why Libera decided to go to the most Catholic country in Asia. Divas Like This – Whitney Houston & Mariah Carey

Recently there’s been quite a lot of news in the US about the two divas’ impending album releases. Whitney Houston of “I Will Always Love You” fame is slated to release her newest album “I Look To You” on August 31, which is like tomorrow?!!!

The single of the same name, has attracted the attention of fans who have always been nostalgic about Whitney’s musical charm. Listen to the below and see if you agree with me.

If excitement is in the air because of Whitney, make that double. Mariah is going to release the 2nd single of her album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel”. Title: “I Want To Know What Love Is”.

If it sounds familiar that’s because it IS familiar. It’s the same song sung by the Foreigners, only this time Mariah seems to sing it diva-like, not unlike Whitney-like too. Oops, I mean Mariah-like :lol:

However I sense a sort of divorce from the album’s first single “Obsessed“. 2nd single is so unlike what Mariah does these days. The 1st single literally splashes Mariah Carey. Hence I feel it’s like an attempt to compete with Whitney for oldie fan attention (and connection). I maybe wrong. However I really wonder how Mariah will reconcile her past charm with her present wit. Not surprisingly for me, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has called it “dead…stale…no reheating can save it”. And he opined that THIS single not Obsessed should have been released first, to which I agree.

Having said that, the singing’s great. I really appreciate that Mariah did try to bring back the old charm which she exuded when she sang “Hero” and “When You Believe”. Marketing tactics are not a problem to me.

So which goes for you? Looking Whitney or Knowing Mariah? :D

My verdict:
Black Eyed Peas should have included the latter in their THE E.N.D. album, at least. It’s way cooler than the original, no offense. Plus, kids WILL love it now that the remix just plainly screams GI JOE all over. Who knows one day we’ll see kids boasting that they’re so 3008 (the lyrics) while imagining themselves donning cool exoskeletons (the cool GI JOE suit)?
